Biographies of the Artistic Directors

Rhett Brewer, Composer/Vocalist
With the release of the collaborative album These Wings Without Feathers featuring Rhett and Lisa Gerrard, his music was
introduced to an international audience. BBC presenter Charlie Gillett was among those who championed Rhett’s debut album
The Ebbing Wings of Wisdom. Rhett’s distinctive sound bridges the gap between classical, world and modern music sensibilities.
Unusually Brewer uses the human voice as an instrument, himself a Vocalist as well as a Composer. He specialises in music with
a gentle intensity and his brand of atmospheric seduction spans the spectrum and scale of human emotions. Rhett remains the
only recognisable Classical Composer of black origin in Europe. From recent American films such as The Path to 9/11, broadcast
recently on BBC 2, and the Universal/Vivendi videogame Homeworld to the BBC Documentary The Feast, Rhett’s work escapes
conventional classification.
Rhett has worked with many film directors over the years. Recent projects include An Anatomy of Violence by Danish director
Mette Rix, a film about Tsjêbbe Hettinga by Dutch director and Golden Calf winner Pieter Verhoeff and Gene Generation by
American director Pearry Teo. In 2007, Rhett served on the music jury for the BAFTA awards and he contributed music
to 6 films last year.

Lucas Jedrzejak, Video Artist
Originally from Poland, and having lived in the UK since 1992, Lucas founded Bison Grass Films in Sheffield 5 years ago. Having
won a Sony Award in 2005 for post-production, he has since established a reputation for innovative and experimental film and
video work for private clients as much as for his own documentaries, video installations and fiction. Corporate clients have included
The Carphone Warehouse, Sheffield City Council and Tesco and creative commissions have included work with the Lantern
Theatre and the Open Theatre Company. With an atmospheric aesthetic informed by fellow ex-pat luminaries such as Kieslowski
and Pawlikowski, Lucas has developed an individual visual style, which marries elements of silent film, textural experimentation,
and poetic narrative. Lucas’ first feature work Vincent’s World, currently in pre-production, is an expressionistic portrait of the mind,
human perspective and reality through the eyes of a protagonist suffering from multiple personality disorder. Previously, he directed
the documentary The Peckham Project, which featured the lives and impact felt in that community following the murder of schoolboy
Damilola Taylor. Most recently, Lucas has directed an exclusive new documentary about legendary British boxer Ricky Hatton filmed
in Las Vegas.
Previously, Lucas has worked with Theatre directors as well as for corporate clients and governmental departments. As a
cinematographer, Lucas has worked with over 30 directors over the years in both Poland and the UK. He has also created music
videos for groups like The Thin Man. In 2007, he began working with Rhett Brewer on a creative film for his project Hotel de Ville,
which led to the commencement of In Expectation of the Thaw and the perfect creative triptych with Jamie Hamilton.
